Laziness is not a Disability

Once again, Melbourne weather is throwing its best at its residents, it's cold, it's wet and selfish pricks park in handicapped spots, because they don't want to get wet.

Here is the proof - EVERY single vehicleparked illegally, located at Epping Plaza. Friday night the 25th May 2012.

4.11pm - Friday the 25th May 2012 - Parked in a P2 zone, which is for those that can walk, just have difficulties  (Catergory 2 parking permit)

4.12pm - Friday the 25th May 2012 - Parked in a P2 zone, which is for those that can walk, just have difficulties (Catergory 2 parking permit)

4.12pm - Friday the 25th May 2012 - Parked in a P2 zone, which is for those that can walk, just have difficulties  (Catergory 2 parking permit)

4.13pm - Friday the 25th May 2012 - Parked in a Blue zone, for those requiring wheelchairs or complicated walking aids  (Catergory 1 Parking Permit) **2 mentions - see below

5.19pm - Friday the 25th May 2012 -  Parked in a Blue zone, for those requiring wheelchairs or complicated walking aids (Catergory 1 Parking Permit) **2 mentions - see above

5.20pm - Friday the 25th May 2012 - Parked in a P2 zone, which is for those that can walk, just have difficulties (Catergory 2 parking permit)

If you know any of these registrations - I hope YOU tell them that stupidity is NOT a disability and when their mother/father/child or friend NEEDS one of these spots and they are filled with able-bodied people, watch them get abusive.
NONE OF THESE Vehicles were displaying permits, so were parking there against all regulations, tied to these permits. No permit visible, NO PARKING there.

  1. This is a huge problem. I get really angry that people just don't care enough to consider the disabled in our community. I have noted these vehicles, and looked carefully at their number plates. I will probably never see one of them, or remember the number plate when I do - but if I see one...

I'm gonna start photographing them too Heather, and I hope one of the owners catches me at it. Perhaps we should start a wall of shame?

Beats me why these motorists shouldn't come out to find a flat tyre... Nah, I'm not really that nasty. Or am I? Hmmmmm. Only takes a moment to let a tyre down. Hmmmmm. Oh Brad, stop thinking like that!!!

    1. tyabblemons - I understand the frustration of wanting to give the offenders something they deserve, but....... you are likely to be witnessed and have the same returned in a manner far more damaging - The people who DO offend like this - only care for themselves. I've been verballed, just trying to be nice to people and tell them they are breaking the law :(

Thanks for taking the time to comment

  2. Hi there,
I empathize with your situation. I have a parking permit (though here there is no grading system I would be your Cat 2) and I won't take the last disabled spot! As the baby boomers age there will be more and more people who understand your situation - unfortunately there will also be more and more demand for the spots. It blew me away when I moved home to Australia from the US to find that there are more spots allocated for parents with children in strollers than for disabled people!

    1. Displaced - I try NOT to park in disabled spots IF I'm having a 'good' day - but they are so few and far between - it's hard to recall the last time. Yes you are right - there do appear to be more parents with prams parking (which is also abused) and in one instance, closer than the disabled parking!

Calling the council has little effect. They are short-staffed as it is and their response is generally "We'll send someone as soon as we can" Inveriably, no-one is ever sent :(

  3. Just out of curiousity, what status does 'parents with prams' have? do they get a permit tagF for their car? Have often been tempted to 'abuse' these spaces because they're available to the young and fit.
There 's is no permit or carspace for people like me who have difficulty walking over a period of time, but don't meet the RTA's 'cant walk 100m rule' - sometimes i can walk 100m, but shopping and carparking sually involves a lot more.

    1. In Western Australia - Gazetted Parking laws state "A person not being accompanied by a child and using a pram to transport that child at the time shall not stop or park in a parking bay set aside by a “parents with prams sign”" and a $60 penalty for not obeying.

Anon - wouldn't you be suitable for the P2 parking permit? (Victoria) (PDF) http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/TrafficAndRoadConditions/ParkingAndClearways/DisabilityParkingScheme.htm

I don't know what else to suggest :(

For me - I have 'good' days and bad........ and shopping centres are a BIG no-no, unless I want to be crippled for 24 hours :( Often I can't get back out to the car, once I've got inside the shopping because I 'wear out' half way round :(
