Irony of life

Men:
1. All men are extremely busy.
2. Although they are so busy, they still have time for women.
3. Although they have time for women, they don't really care for them.
4. Although they don't really care for them, they always have one around.
5. Although they always have one around them, they always try their luck with others.

Women:
1. The most important thing for a woman is financial security.
2. Although this is so important, they still go out and buy expensive clothes and stuff.
3. Although they always buy expensive clothes, they never have something to wear.
4. Although they never have something to wear, they always dress beautifully.
5. Although they always dress beautifully, their clothes are always just "an old rag".
6. Although their clothes are always "just an old rag", they still expect you to compliment them.
7. Although they expect you to compliment them, when you do, they don't believe you.

Wisdom:
WHEN I WAS MARRIED 25 YEARS AGO, I TOOK A LOOK AT MY WIFE ONE DAY AND SAID, "HONEY, 25 YEARS AGO WE HAD A CHEAP APARTMENT, A CHEAP CAR, SLEPT ON SOFA BED AND WATCHED A
10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV, BUT I GOT TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT WITH A HOT 25-YEAR-OLD BLOND."

"NOW WE HAVE A $500,000.00 HOME, A $45,000.00 CAR, NICE BIG BED AND PLASMA SCREEN TV, BUT I'M SLEEPING WITH A 50-YEAR-OLD WOMAN. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU ARE NOT HOLDING UP YOUR SIDE OF THINGS."

MY WIFE IS A VERY REASONABLE WOMAN

SHE TOLD ME TO GO OUT & FIND A HOT 25-YEAR-OLD BLONDE, AND SHE WOULD MAKE SURE THAT I WOULD ONCE AGAIN BE LIVING IN A CHEAP APARTMENT, DRIVING A CHEAP CAR, SLEEPING ON A SOFA BED AND WATCHING A 10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV.

AREN'T OLDER WOMEN GREAT? THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO SOLVE YOUR MID-LIFE CRISIS.

Discussion between a Husband and Wife about #DearGerry

Sitting at the dining room table, discussing Harvey Norman

Wife – “Did you hear about the fuss Harvey Norman is making about internet purchases?”
Husband “Yeah, he just wants everyone to pay GST.”
Wife – “Even if people pay GST, it’s still cheaper than buying on-shore mostly. His real argument is no-one should buy off-shore”
Husband – “No, that’s not what he wants, he just wants people to pay GST”
Wife – “No, he doesn’t want people to buy anything offshore, even if they do pay GST. He’s claims that Australian Jobs are being lost, because people are buying off shore.”
Husband – “No, he just wants people to pay GST”
Wife – “Even with the GST, it’s cheaper for me to bypass the likes of Harvey Norman and buy offshore. If Harvey Norman was so worried about Australian Jobs, he’d stock mostly Australian Made products. Instead he sources as much product as possible from overseas, as cheap as possible. Doing exactly what I’m doing, only difference is he has buying power, I have none.”
Husband – “Oh”

Cussons - (Morning Fresh) Fail at Customer Service (Twice)

You’ve all seen the type of thing I’m talking about. Fill in your details, agree to the terms and conditions, with the promise of free product straight to your door.

Often there is are a few questions to answer and you ALWAYS have to agree to the Terms and Conditions and supply an email address for further marketing purposes. I always say no, as is my right.

We’ve purchased a single drawer Fisher and Paykel dishwasher, inside said item was a card offered “One Month Free Trial” of morning fresh Dishdrawer tabs (Value $7.49) Noting that promotion is being run by Cussons Holdings (manufacturers of Morning Fresh Washing Detergents)

I did what was required of me and when I pressed enter, this is what I was presented with (note the red writing, bottom right hand corner) Apparently “according to our records, this unique code QXXXXXX has expired”

(identifiying details removed)

So let’s re-cap, dishdrawer purchased, contained promotional material with Redemption closing date of 11.59pm AEDST 28th February 2011.

My question is how often does this happen and how many times do people just let it ride?

I’m sick of being the nice guy. Now going to pick up the phone and ring the number for www.morningfresh.com.au FAQ’s tab and see what response I get.

And I go through the button pushing stage and get disconnected without speaking to anyone.

Congratulations Cussons – you lose on two counts

Sportsmen and women behaving badly

The newspapers are full of athletes behaving badly. Every page, every news bulletin, every radio report.

I’m not an avid sports follower, I’m the first to admit. For this piece I won’t name names, (I can’t remember them) BUT I CAN recall the events and will do so.

The problem is that Australia thinks people who participate in elite sports are heroes. They are good at what they do, but that is all. They are not heroes, Heroes are people who do things in times of need to save someone or something. Not getting paid to play sport.

In the last couple of months, we’ve seen (no gender bias) adults acting like goats in front of cameras, bashing people, getting rolling drunk, killing children. raping children, public brawls, lie, get involved with drugs and criminals. Need I go on?

The whole problem is …………. There are NO consequences for their actions. An elite sportsperson can do as they please, when they please and they risk nothing. They are not at risk of losing their job, (unlike average Joe) These matters rarely go before the courts, the club makes sure of this. The police even seem to have a hand in helping smooth over the situation. Yet if average Joe did any of the this, he’d be trussed up like the Christmas turkey and in the Remand Centre Lock-up before you could say ……….. He didn’t mean it.

People need to realise that every action has a reaction, the problem is that for an elite sportsperson, there is no reaction, as people will crawl over broken glass to help the ‘hero’ of the track or field.

Definition of ‘Hero’ ( thanks to Princeton)
a man distinguished by exceptional courage and nobility and strength; "RAF pilots were the heroes of the Battle of Britain"
The principal character in a play or movie or novel or poem
champion: someone who fights for a cause
(classical mythology) a being of great strength and courage celebrated for bold exploits; often the offspring of a mortal and a god

Definition of ‘Hero Worship’ (thanks to Princeton)
idolize: love unquestioningly and uncritically or to excess; venerate as an idol; "Many teenagers idolized the Beatles"

The problem is that the media encourage the ‘hero’ tag. Sports men and women ARE NOT heroes, they are the centre of a ‘hero worshipping’ scam, nothing more

Real heroes, fight for the fallen, fight for what is right, They don’t kick or hit a ball around a field, nor use two feet to run a track a speed. Real heroes do things quietly and without the need for recognition.

Just remember that next time you see an article in the paper about sportsmen and women behaving badly – THEY ARE NOT HEROES, Only good in their chosen field. Like so many cooks, cleaners, mechanics, even book keepers and cabinet makers!

Australia – A Land of Contrast

The 31st December 2010, the last day of the old, and soon to be the new year, the weather put on a show.

The 31st December, saw Australia endure everything from the threat of cyclone in the west, to flooding in the north and high temperatures and fire danger in the south. It’s not abnormal, these extremes, we are talking about Australia. She is a land of contrast.

I think people have forgotten what Australia is truly capable of. Many people just sit back and wait for someone to tell them to do something, tell them to leave, tell them to tie everything down, tell them to have batteries at hand, or food or drinking water.

We are adults, people need to realise that the more they rely on government authorities to tell them what to do, the less choices there will be in the future. We need to make sure we are self-reliant and not reliant on others to make decisions for us.

Make 2011 the year you decide to become accountable for your actions, the year that you become aware of your surroundings and you become aware of what is going on around you.

The year that you stand up if you see something that isn’t right, the year that you make yourself heard above the rabble for the causes that need fighting.

Australia is a compassionate country, but for some it seems more important to look over our vast waters to neighbouring countries and offering aid there. We need to look in our own backyard first.

There are children and adults, without adequate food and shelter. There are agencies that need our help and yet people are willing to assist those less fortunate in other countries and happily turn a blind eye to those on their own doorstep.

Make 2011 the year that you become self-aware and help those in your neighbourhood and town, be it the next door neighbour or an Australian based charity.

Welcome to 2011 – may it be the best yet!
