MERRY CHRISTMAS!! (or is it?)

*Twas the month before Christmas*
*When all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying*
*Nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away,*
*The reason for Christmas - no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*
*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say*
* December 25th is just a "Holiday ".*

*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, cheques and credit*
*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*
*Something was changing, something quite odd! *
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*
*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*
* At Myers the word Christmas - was nowhere to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Target and Woolies and Coles*
*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*

*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-is-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Gillard!*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith;*
* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate "Summer Break" under your "Dream Tree"*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, Not Happy Holiday!*
*Christ is 'The Reason' for the Christ-mas Season!*

(The earliest reference I can find to this, is December 2006) if anyone knows the origins, I'm happy to attribute)

  1. Merry Christmas it is, always will be and that's not dismiss other religions, but this is mine and I expect that others respect mine just as I do theirs.

Merry Christmas - a wee bit early but just to get in the spirit.

  2. Maralyn - just as I'm expected to have tolerance and respect for others beliefs, the same respect should be afforded to those that believe in Christ, in Christmas and in Christianity.
It's not too hard to ask is it?

Dragonsally - it's not just the words - but also the message behind those words and whoever put them together is a brilliant wordsmith and also someone who believes in Christmas, and not just the Holiday aspect of that period in time!

    Thanks for the comments!

  3. Thanks for posting this Heather. I think that there are many people who forget that Christmas is not just for shopping and presents & it's not just another day off work. That there is a reason for the season.

In diversifying why should Christmas be forgotten or changed. We're meant to be tolerant of all backgrounds & religions. As you said the same respect should reciprocated. Its certainly not too hard to ask.
